In 2009, Team Sutton was established to maximise the benefits of London hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Team Sutton is made up of many local people and groups who are working towards and promoting sporting, cultural and personal achievement in celebration of the Games in 2012 and afterwards.

The aims of Team Sutton are to:

  • Showcase Sutton’s potential 2012 Olympians and Paralympians
  • Encourage everyone to get behind our local potential medal winners
  • Inspire Sutton’s young people to take up sport and aim to be the best they can be
  • Provide a focus for Sutton’s schools to:
  • Incorporate activities around the Olympic and Paralympic Games into the curriculum
  • Create direct links between sport and other curriculum topics
  • Encourage Sutton’s businesses to support local young sportspeople
  • Support Sutton’s sports clubs and volunteers to:
  • Fully prepare for the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the interest they will generate
  • Ensure that they have the capacity to satisfy increased demand from local people
